Biography

Luke Pammenton is an Australian drummer and educator known for his precise rhythmic expression, impeccable consistency, and his diverse skill set, allowing him to adapt to any genre and style of playing. Whether it be complex odd time jazz arrangements (with Jackal and The Soundscapes Trio) or heavy progressive rock (with MofoIsDead and Silence the Sun) Luke has established himself as one of Australia’s premier first call drummers.

Born in England Luke began his drumming journey at the age of 9. After moving to Brisbane Australia aged 15 and finishing high school Luke went on to study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where he was granted the Bachelor of Music in performance, and the Master of Music Studies specialising in jazz drums and contemporary music.

Luke has been lucky enough to play at venues throughout Australia and overseas. In 2010 he toured Japan with Switch 3, and has completed Australian tours with MofoIsDead (2015) and contemporary jazz trio Jackal (2016) which culminated in a performance at the 2016 Brisbane International Jazz Festival. Luke also spent many years working with The Soundscapes Quintet and Trio and appears on their albums Globalectic (2011) and The Unravelling (2016) which were both released to very positive reviews. In 2014 Luke joined MofoIsDead. He can be heard on their 2015 release Brisneyland, a record that Music Is My Muse called, “a poignant mirror of the human psyche” and Sound of Oz described as “anthemic, epic, and loud”. He is also one of the founding members of Silence the Sun. The band has released videos for the singles Faultline (2017) and Faceless (2016) and were finalists at the 2018 Q Music awards in the Best Heavy Song category. Luke also plays with Paradise City - The Guns N Roses Show.

In 2008 Luke launched his own teaching studio and is now one of the most in demand educators in Brisbane.

Luke plays Yamaha Drums, Evans Drumheads and Promark Sticks.
